Many of you have expressed interest in learning how to retighten your own hair, well you now have the opportunity to do so. Yes, you heard it correctly. I will offer a Hands-On DIY Retightening Class to the public.

Whether your intentions are to retighten a portion of your hair occasionally in efforts to cut down on cost, or for those situations where because of an event, your retightening can’t wait, taking this class will provide you with the tools necessary to retighten your own hair with confidence. Okay, that may be a little aggressive; however, you will be given the foundation and post-class support so that over time, your confidence is guaranteed to grow.

If you decide to take the class, it is essential that you leave enough new growth for us to work with during our class.  So be sure to notify your consultant prior to your  next retightening appointment. If you are able to schedule your next retightening after your class, even better.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to take the retightening class with you?

No. The Sisterlock Company offers retightening classes, priced at $250. Unfortunately, they do not offer post class support nor assistance with corrections. Some have also indicated that the class moved too quickly for them and the class size was a bit larger. We didn’t want this to be our testimony, so we decided to hold smaller classes so that we can provide thorough training with extended support/corrections for an additional 6 month post class.

What is the class size?

To ensure that the class size remains small, we will accept up to 4 students per class.

My Sisterlocks were newly installed, can I take the class?

Most likely no. You hair has to be stable and clear from slippage. If you’d like to take the class but not sure if you are illegible, check with your consultant.

How do I know which class to sign up for?

Different hair types require different patterns/locking techniques. Session 1 is reserved for individuals who have a 3 locking pattern. Session 2 is reserved for individuals who have a 4 locking pattern. Not sure sure of your locking pattern? Ask your consultant for your locking pattern or book a consultation ( Book Online).

If I take the class, do I have to retighten my hair on my own?

No. Some individuals take the class just so can retighten their hair in a pitch. We have a few who will retighten a portion of their head (front or back) and allow me/their consultant to finish the remaining portion. Others will retighten their entire head and book 1-3 appointments throughout the year to ensure the grid hasn’t been compromised.

If I retighten my hair will this impact my retightening cost?

Typically individuals will notice a decrease in cost when they go for retightenings. The more you retighten, the less your consultant would have to retighten which will drive cost down. Check with your consultant to confirm.

What if I lose my retightening tool?

Not a problem, our reordering resources will be provided.

I wear glasses, will that be a problem for the class?

Eye glasses can interfere with retightening locs close to the ears. Those who wear contact lens find it easier to navigate in that area.

My nails are long, is that going to be a problem?

Typically, students who have long nails find it challenging to retighten their locks.

How much hair should I leave out for the class?

It is recommended that you leave a few rows un-tightened for the retightening class (See below). Section your hair in four sections, part down the middle and ear to ear. - 3 rows from the bottom left section (near the ear) - 3 rows from the bottom right secion (near the ear) - 2 rows from the bottom left section (bottom row) - 2 rows from the bottom right section (bottom row) * Hair should not exceed 1" of new growth. Growth over 1" can make it challenging for novice.
